You may want to compress files for a number of different reasons. I am sure you don;t need me to tell you why you want to compress the file, you would just like me to tell you how to compress the file. There are several ways to compress a file, but on of the easiest and most popular ways to do it is with a program called WinRar. There are three main ways one can compress a file with WinRar.
- Accessing WinRAR in Windows Explorer
Accessing WinRAR directly in Windows Explorer will make it so you do not have to “run” the WinRAR program.
1.Select the files or directories that you want to compress from within Windows Explorer.
2.Then right-click the file, to display four WinRAR menu options. Clicking “Add to archive” and “Compress and email” will bring up a dialog box that allows you to adjust the compression options. Clicking o”Add to . . .” and “Compress . . .and email” will let you use the WinRAR defaults for a simple and fast compression.
3. Choose an option to begin the file compression.
- Using WinRAR with all of it’s features.
1.Start the WinRAR program, either from a Desktop icon, or from the menu path Start -> All Programs -> WinRAR -> WinRAR.
2.In the WinRAR application, click on the “View” button to display your computer’s files. Select one or more directories or files, then click on the “Add” button, which brings up a dialog box. The name of the archive file to be created is defaulted in the “Archive Name” field; if the archive name already exists, you will simply be adding files to the existing archive.
3.Choose the archive format and the compression format. You can also choose to enable the “SFX archive” option, which creates an executable archive file, meaning that the receiver does not need to have WinRAR installed to extract the files.
4.Additional advanced options are available on other tabs in the dialog box, such as archive timestamps. Click “OK” to create the archive file.
Using the wizard will walks you through the process of creating an archive file.
1.Click on the “Wizard” button in WinRAR.
2.Then click on “Create a new archive” to create a new archive file.
3.Then browse to the file(s) you would like to compress.
4.Then either choose the default, or type in a new name for the archive file. Be sure to click on the “Browse” button to choose the location that you would like to store the file in (if you do not specify a location then the file will automatically be saved to “Documents and Settings”.
All of the above options will make it easy for just about anyone to use WinRAR to compress files and folders.

If you do not have Windows XP or you are using an older version of Windows or Mac, then there are third-party softwares that can accomplish this task for you with ease. The following guide will teach you how to password protect your files manually in Windows XP.

Putty is a computer application that enables computer users to work with a remote Linux system from a Windows enabled PC. Though this application was originally intended to be used by Windows operating system; it was further developed and now can be used on other operating systems. Putty is an open source program that is available free of charge. Read on to find out how to use the putty application.
- Obtain two files. Before using Putty, the computer user will require 2 files, which are Putty.exe as well as psftp.exe. These two files are easily available and the user can download them from the same website.
- To get the files, ensure the computer has internet connections. If connection is achieved open the internet search engine such as Google.
- On the search field enter the name of the file, in this case the name is putty then press enter. Click on one of the download links. On the page for downloading chose both psftp.exe and Putty.exe and select the appropriate folder to save the two files.
- Once the files have been downloaded successfully, open by double clicking the Putty.exe icon. When this is done a configuration window appears on the screen.
- On the right of the window there is a text field for writing the users “Host Name”. Enter the following host name user@victorio.uit.no. On the Connection tab below enter the name victorio.
- Click on the terminal tab, which is located on the left side of the configuration window and then select UTF-8. Select the most suitable font size; in this case font size 8 is recommended.

- Log in to the program by entering the user name and the password on the new window that appears.
- To copy files from the victorio to the computer write “get” as part of the syntax, while copying files to the victorio write “put”. For instance, to get files write the syntax as follows, “get sourcefile resultfile”
- Using putty to lump files in one archive allows the user to copy more than one file at the same time. Once the files have been archived, move them to the computer and unpack them.
Always ensure that other programs are not running when installing putty as this will slow the installation process. Make sure to log off Putty once the process is completed.

An r4 is a type of device that lets one download roms for nintendo Ds. Making it able to download games from the internet such as the PSP owners and listen to music, be able to read e-books, view comics and pictures and also watch movies DS. However one will need to get a micro SD card that does not come with the r4.
To use the r4:
- Gather all the supplies. If the computer one is using lacks a slot that is meant for a micro SD card, then get the USB adapter that is offered together with the r4.
- The micro SD card should then be slipped on the USB adapter, which normally comes with the r4 package and insert the Universal Sever Bass adapter on the USB port found in the computer. After this is done, one should go to computer programs and select the My Computer option. Once it opens up, select the option “Removable Disc” and click on it because it is the drive that is in correspondence with the available USB adapter but this varies from one computer to the other.
- There is a disc that comes along with the R4, this should be removed and then loaded onto the computer. After this has been accomplished, the files that are in the disk should be copied to the Micro SD card.
- Remove the micro SD card once the file transfer process is complete and then ensure that it is slipped to the bottom part of the R4.
- The R4 should then be inserted in the DS and then ensure that the DS is turned on. If one has used the R4 in the proper manner there should be no problem with the DS going to the R4screen.
- One can then use the R4 DS to be able to make downloads for the DS. Files can also be created and then loaded on the DS through the Micro SD card found on the R4.
With the R4 DS successfully installed, software can now be downloaded to the Nintendo DS by the use of this device. Files are able to be dragged and then dropped easily from the computer to the micro SD card that has been included. No extra software will be needed to be downloaded on the DS .The R4 utility is available in the local video shops. R4 comes in handy when downloading games, reading e-books and watching movies.
